Sears was the director of the Jefferson County Blazers

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our friend and fellow SLABA board member Mike Sears.   He passed away on Mar. 24, 2025.

A founding member of SLABA and long-time director of the Jefferson County Blazers, Mike has positively impacted thousands of lives as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and program director, and has done more than anyone can imagine to keep our league running smoothly throughout our 38-year history.

Mike was inducted into the Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.   He spent his career as teacher, coach and later the athletic director at Fox High School in Arnold.  He coached American Legion baseball and was one of the founding members of SLABA as the General Manager of the Jefferson County Blazers.  SLABA has the Muskopf-Sears Service Award named in honor of Mike and fellow SLABA founder Jim Muskopf.

Please keep his brother Stephen and sister Mary Kay, as well as his countless number of friends, in your thoughts and prayers.

Visitation is Thursday, March 27, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Kutis Affton Chapel.  Funeral will be Friday, March 28, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6020 Old Antonia Road in Imperial.   Interment Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
