Nov. 8, 2022 - The Baltimore Orioles announced their 2023 MLB coaching staff on Tuesday.  Former SLABA player Cody Asche was added as the Orioles offensive strategist.

Asche, who served as the team’s upper-level hitting coordinator in 2022, played in parts of five seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox from 2013-2017.

He played high school ball at Ft. Zumwalt West and for American National West in SLABA.  He went on to play for the University of Nebraska in 2009-2011 before being drafted by the Phillies in 2011.

Asche joins another SLABA player - Co-Hitting Coach Matt Borgschulte on the major league club.  Borgschulte and Ryan Fuller will be in their second season as co-hitting coaches.

He attended Parkway West High School and played for the South-West Stars in SLABA and was the 2007 SLABA team MVP for the Stars.  Borgschulte began his college career at Western Kentucky, but transferred to Division II Drury University, where he became their first All-American.

He coached at Southeast Missouri State University and in the Twins organization before being tapped as the Co-Hitting Coach of the Orioles.
