THE ST. LOUIS REDBIRDS LAST PARTICIPATED IN SLABA IN 2009
The St. Louis Redbirds were composed of players from the base schools of Marquette and Lafayette High Schools. The club was formerly called the Ellisville Redbirds. The Redbirds team colors were red, white and blue. Home games were played at Lafayette High School.
One of their two most famous alumni is 2005 National League Rookie of the Year, 2006 All-Star Game Home Run Derby champion, National League MVP and 2008 World Series Champion Ryan Howard. Ryan played with the Redbirds from 1996 through 1998 before attending Missouri State (formerly Southwest Missouri State University).
St. Louis Cardinals player and 2011 World Series MVP David Freese is also a St. Louis Redbirds alumnus. David played for the Redbirds from 1998 to 2001. David attended St. Louis Community College at Meramec, then transferred to the University of South Alabama. He was a ninth round selection during the 2006 draft by the San Diego Padres. He became a St. Louis Cardinal in 2007 when he was traded by the Padres for outfielder Jim Edmonds.
